Charlee's birth story!!!
Saturday, May 29th I was having contractions off and on. They stopped for a while and then I went on a long walk with the boys and my friend, Steph. Right after that, it picked back up. I had no idea if I was in labor or not since I had been having these weird contractions all week. We went to bed around 11 or 12 that night. Everyone went to sleep and that's about when they started to really hurt- not bad but enough that I couldn't sleep. Still unsure if it was real labor or not, I just cleaned and took a bath. Eventually I decided to time the contractions and they were about 4-6 minutes apart.
Around 3am I decided I was in labor and called my doula, Stephanie to come over. She helped me deal with the pain and gave me massages and used essential oils to help me. When the pain was starting to become unbearable, I decided to go to the hospital. I was admitted around 5:15 am. At that time I was dilated 4+ cm (almost 5), -1 station and 80% effaced. (Although it felt like I should have been like 7cm!!) I went into my room. The boys, Jamie and Stephanie were with me and helped me through everything with back rubs, oils and a birthing ball ect. The boys just watched movies while all this was going on. They were SO tired! They came back to check me around 8am. At this time, the worst pain was hitting! I was 8cm dilated. Soon after, I wanted an epidural but the anesthesiologist was in a c-section. By the time he was done, it was too late for one and it was about time to push. The pain was excruciating!!! I've never been in so much pain in my life!! I was screaming! It was like a real life horror film! My midwife, Guy Cox, was amazing and helped me through the end so much! I couldn't have done it without him, my wonderful doula and my amazing husband! I can't say enough how much I recommend having a midwife and a doula! I pushed for 8 minutes. She was posterior and stuck and her heart rate dropped really low and she went into distress. She inhaled meconium and when she came out, she was not breathing and they couldn't get her to breath. The pulled a code blue and rushed her to NICU. It was so scary! Nobody would say if she was ok or not. I guess she inhaled a lot and it was stuck to her lungs and she was unable to breath on her own. She was on a breathing machine, oxygen, a feeding tube and antibiotics for lung infection. She was finally released on Wednesday and is doing great now!
My recovery was amazing this time around! I can't say yet if I recommend going drug free or not! LOL! I still feel tortured and in shock! But I never felt this good after the boys births! I had no stitches, no additional water retention from all the drugs and fluids they fill you with, no blood pressure issues from the pit and epi, no back pain from the epi. NONE of the stuff I had to deal with when I was on drugs the first two times! And it went WAY faster going on my own with no interference! I felt great right after she was born!
